The Hyundai Kona Electric, along with its corporate cousin the Kia Niro, is part of the Hyundai Motor Group’s effort to both compete with Tesla on range and to normalize EVs. The Kona is a subcompact SUV almost identical from the outside to its internal-combustion-engine counterpart, and has been a sales hit for the South Korea automaker. Yet its future is uncertain as Hyundai moves toward putting all its EV models into the new Ioniq brand.
