For anybody who’s been following American voting patterns since Donald Trump descended onto the political scene just over a decade ago, legislation that makes it easy for people with valid passports to vote and hard for everyone else sounds like a plot to torpedo Republican election prospects. Affluent, educated urbanites are the most likely to have passports, and they tend to dislike Trump. Naturalized citizens are another passport-heavy group, and while they may have, on balance, favored Trump in the 2024 election, his immigration policies have since turned many of them off.
