The Dells’ $6.3 Billion Gift Isn’t Just About the Money

It’s about a chain reaction.

When encountering the unfathomable wealth of America’s richest entrepreneurs — fortunes numbering in the hundreds of billions of dollars, and soon trillions — a natural question some people ask is why don’t they give the money away, since they can’t realistically spend most of it. Michael and Susan Dell, who are worth an estimated $148 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, are doing just that.

The couple plans to give $250 to 25 million American children 10 and under who are not eligible for so-called Trump accounts, a program under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act in which the Treasury Department will provide a $1,000 investment account for every child born between 2025 and 2028. The Dells will also match the government’s $1,000 contribution to Trump accounts for children of Dell Technologies Inc. employees.
