Autumn has officially arrived in the Northern Hemisphere, which means it’s time to break out the camera and catch the seasonal explosion of color. But given how quickly the transition happens, and how saturated most Instagram feeds are already, it can be intimidating to figure out how to make your pictures stand out.

We sent professional lenswoman Gabriela Herman, who specializes in travel photography, to New York’s Catskills to shoot foliage this year and share her 10 pieces of advice for those trying to raise their game.
