The US and Iran are weighing negotiations to extend a two-week ceasefire as President Donald Trump presses ahead with a naval blockade of Iranian ports to curb the country’s oil exports.

Washington wants to use maritime pressure to push Iran to offer bigger concessions at the negotiating table. The Islamic Republic is considering a short-term pause to shipments through the Strait of Hormuz to avoid testing the US and scuppering a fresh round of peace talks, we’re told.

We’re also learned the aim is to hold discussions before the April 7 truce expires next week. One idea is to return to Pakistan, where an initial round took place last weekend. Fighting has largely paused, except in Lebanon, where Israel continues its military campaign against Iran-backed Hezbollah.
