Paris, like other parts of Europe, has this week felt mostly cautious relief after the announcement of a (still-shaky) two-week ceasefire in Iran. It signals a potential end in sight for the Hormuz closure that’s pushed up energy prices, darkened the economic outlook and worsened security threats. And also hope for diplomatic solutions as talks get underway, including a potential coalition to help secure Hormuz longer-term backed by Emmanuel Macron, even as he has insisted that “France did not choose this war.”
