This week, Cambodia erected a hand-carved, seven-foot statue in honor of one of its smallest heroes: Magawa, the landmine-sniffing rat who detected over 100 unexploded ordnance over his five-year career with the Belgian nonprofit Apopo. Magawa died in 2022, leaving behind a team of equally skilled colleagues in one of the most heavily mine-polluted countries in the world.
