Trump's 'Die Tonight' Iran Threat Heightens War Crime Fears

The US attacked military targets across Iran’s Kharg Island as President Donald Trump escalated his threats of a massive bombing. “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again,” Trump said in a social-media post, with just hours left before a deadline to reach an agreement to end the war.
Vice President JD Vance, speaking in Budapest today, said he’s confident Iran will issue a response in time. But the hardline leadership in Tehran is unlikely to cave to US demands, according to our analysis.
Meanwhile some other prominent right-wing figures expressed alarm at Trump’s language.
Tucker Carlson, the influential podcaster, called on US officials to resist any potential moves by Trump that could kill Iranian civilians. Former US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, once a Trump supporter who has since turned against him, called on the president’s Cabinet to invoke the 25th amendment to the US Constitution, which provides an avenue for a president to be removed under extraordinary circumstances.
The United Nations has warned that indiscriminate targeting of civilian infrastructure could constitute a war crime. Trump said he’s “not at all” concerned about that potential outcome.
Separately, Israel said it struck eight bridge segments that were used by Iran armed forces to transport weapons and military equipment in several areas. Israel had earlier warned Iranians not to use their country’s railroad network until 9 p.m. local time. — Philip Lagerkranser
