LNG Plants Impacted as Cyclone Barrels Toward Western Australia Coast
Good morning, it’s Ben here in a very windy Melbourne. It’s not quite Cyclone Narelle though, which is expected to make its third, and likely final, landfall in Australia later today as a category four storm near Carnarvon, between Perth and Port Hedland. Chevron announced overnight that two of its gas plants had seen their production knocked offline or reduced, likely due to the storm, while parts of Western Australia have already seen as much as 200mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours.
While a natural disaster threatens our West, a manmade one is picking up steam nationwide, as concerns grow over Australia’s fuel supply. Both the mining and agriculture sectors are feeling the pressure from diesel price rises, as more petrol stations across the country run dry.
