Top Iranian clerics are nearing a decision on the country’s next supreme leader after Ali Khamenei was killed in the US-Israeli war on the Islamic Republic.
The Assembly of Experts, the body mandated to choose Khamenei’s successor, has narrowed its list of candidates and will announce a decision “as soon as possible,” members told Iranian state media over the past two days. In the running is Mojtaba Khamenei, the slain leader’s second-oldest son.
