College Coaches Making $20 Million Are Football Teams’ Trophy Assets

Indiana and Miami will square off for a national championship. The biggest stars may be two well-paid guys wearing headsets. 

When the Indiana Hoosiers and Miami Hurricanes take the field and battle for the college football national championship on Monday, the most important investment made by either team will be standing on the sidelines.

Indiana University has never claimed a national title in football. Until this season, it hadn’t played in a major bowl game in decades. And while the University of Miami was a football powerhouse in the 1980s and ‘90s, it last won a championship in 2001.
