Peaceful transfers of executive power tend to be plain affairs, at least compared with the ornate rituals of succession that traditionally mark the transition of monarchs. There’s no crown to hand off, no throne to relinquish and little in the way of robes or orbs or the burning of frankincense to consecrate the conveyance of corporate sovereignty. There is, however, the matter of the executive suite, which at some point must be vacated—sometimes fumigated—and bequeathed in toto before the new regime can begin in earnest.
