The Hedge Fund That Hides Secrets on the Office Walls
Founder Pete Muller has a passion for puzzles, so he turned the company’s headquarters into a cryptic challenge.

There’s a hidden message in the sculptural fountain to the left of the doorway, one of five pieces of puzzle art at PDT.
Photographer: Michael Vahrenwald for Bloomberg MarketsWhen quantitative hedge fund PDT Partners moved into its new headquarters in New York City after the pandemic, Chief Executive Officer Pete Muller wanted to entice employees back into the office. So he designed a puzzle. “I wanted to give them a reason to look around,” he says.
About 80 artworks are displayed around the three-floor office in Columbus Circle, five of which contain cryptic clues to a phrase. (Gotham Immersive Laboratories helped with the puzzle designs.) Shortly after the challenge was announced at a companywide meeting, Winnie Yang, an engineer, teamed up with a colleague to locate and photograph all the artworks.
