Eugene Goodman, Jan. 6’s Selfless Hero
For 85 seconds, he confronted insurrectionists and led them away from vulnerable lawmakers in the Senate chamber.

Billy House, who was at the Capitol on Jan. 6, has been a congressional reporter for Bloomberg since 2014. In October he shared his thoughts about that day and Goodman, who’s been reticent to speak publicly about his heroic actions.
My job has taken me inside the Capitol for 20 years, often five days a week. I spend most of my time on the House side because there are more lawmakers to talk to. Goodman is a Senate guy. On any other day, I could’ve walked to where he’s usually posted in three minutes—maybe two, if I’m scrambling to make a presser.
