The Bharatiya Janata Party was on track to win the most number of seats in the state legislature, enough to form the government and unseat Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has governed the state for 15 years. It was seen comfortably crossing the 148 seat mark needed for a majority, most of the exit polls showed.
