Incoming Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar
Photographer: Akos Stiller/BloombergHungary’s incoming premier asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy for a meeting to reset ties that plumbed unprecedented lows during outgoing leader Viktor Orban’s tenure.
Peter Magyar, elected on a landslide earlier this month on a pledge to bring Hungary back into the European fold, asked to meet Zelenskiy in the ethnic Hungarian western Ukrainian city of Berehove in June. He also asked Kyiv to expand minority rights, including in the area of language use and education for ethnic Hungarians, as the basis for improved relations.
