Japan Lifts Tsunami Warnings After Quake, No Damage Reported

A powerful earthquake struck off the coast of northeastern Japan on Monday, triggering a tsunami of about 80 centimeters (31 inches) in the port of Kuji and smaller waves in other areas, public broadcaster NHK said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara told reporters.
