Bulgaria will hold its eighth general election since 2021 on Sunday, with former President Rumen Radev aiming to finally end years of political gridlock.
Radev, who opposes sanctions on Russia and aid for Ukraine, resigned from the largely ceremonial presidency in January in order to enter the election race. The former air force general’s Progressive Bulgaria party is likely to fall short of an outright majority, leaving him dependent on potential partners to govern.
