President Donald Trump said Iran is removing sea mines from the Strait of Hormuz, a step that could expand commercial shipping traffic through the vital waterway.

Trump posted on social media Friday that Tehran “has removed, or is removing” all mines from the strait “with the help of the U.S.A.” The president’s claim could not be immediately verified. The New York Times reportedBloomberg Terminal last week that Iran had been unable to locate every mine it laid, citing anonymous US officials.
