In certain ways, last week’s attack on the home of Sam Altman could evoke memories of the 2024 killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Prosecutors allege a 20-year-old man by the name of Daniel Moreno-Gama threw a Molotov cocktail near the gate of the OpenAI CEO’s home. They also say they have evidence the incident was ideologically motivated. Moreno-Gama was allegedly carrying a document warning artificial intelligence companies would cause humanity’s extinction, as well as a list of names of other prominent AI executives and investors. Moreno-Gama hasn’t entered a plea, and his lawyer, citing his history of mental illness, says her client has been overcharged.
