German Carriers Want to Tap Strategic Fuel Reserves, NATO Supply
German airlines are urging the government to take emergency steps such as releasing strategic kerosene reserves to avoid flight cuts before the peak summer season as Mideast tensions remain high.
Industry group BDL also called for access to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization pipeline system to help boost fuel supplies at major hubs such as Frankfurt and Munich. It wants a temporary cut in carbon levies for airlines, more flexibility on sustainable aviation fuel requirements and relief from passenger compensation claims stemming from airspace closings or flight delays.
