Starmer said on Friday he would go before the House of Commons again next week to explain how he could be unaware that security officials had raised objections with Mandelson’s nomination during the vetting process. Government officials said they didn’t discover that the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office had overruled the concerns until Tuesday, despite months of inquiries into the disastrous appointment.
