The US wants Venezuela’s political transition to end in a vote overseen by a new electoral board, a senior State Department official said Thursday, echoing demands from the country’s main opposition coalition.

The Trump administration hasn’t set a date for new elections as it continues work to create the conditions for a fair vote, Michael Kozak, a senior official in the department’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, said at a congressional hearing.
