Somalia Rejects Israel’s Naming of Envoy for Breakaway Region

Israel became the first country to recognize Somaliland, a breakaway region of Somalia.

Somalia condemned Israel’s dispatch of an envoy to the breakaway northern region of Somaliland as an affront to its sovereignty and territorial integrity․

The federal government said the move was in violation of international law‚ the United Nations’ charter‚ and the objectives and principles of the African Union in respect to Somalia remaining as a single‚ indivisible state within its current borders, according to a statement.
