IMF Sees Iran War Driving African Nations to Seek Greater Help
Spillovers from the Iran war are sending more African governments to request financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund, as they’re facing rising inflationary and fiscal strains.
“A few countries have started asking questions about what support we can provide,” Abebe Selassie, director at the Washington-based lender’s African Department, said in an interview. “For some, it’s just rephasing of disbursements — bringing forward disbursements. For others, it maybe that we have to augment.”
