Lawmakers Hammer Pentagon Official Over Army Chief’s Dismissal

US lawmakers questioned a top military officer over Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s decision to fire Army Chief of Staff General Randy George earlier this month, saying the Pentagon chief had given no explanation for the move.

Representative Austin Scott, a Georgia Republican, decried the decision, saying George and his wife Patty, also a military veteran, had served the nation for nearly 40 years. He said George’s ouster could have a “chilling effect” on officers’ ability to provide honest feedback to civilian leadership.
