Taiwan Resumes Defense Debate After Opposition Head Meets Xi
Taiwan’s lawmakers resumed talks on a massive defense bill aimed at both defending against China and placating US President Donald Trump, with the opposition emboldened by a public show of support from Xi Jinping.
Lawmakers met Wednesday afternoon and agreed to push the stalled general government budget forward. They also agreed to hold another closed-door meeting on a draft special defense bill on April 20, when the defense ministry will brief legislators, according to Chen Kuan-ting, a lawmaker from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party.
