Japan’s trade chief was given a rebuke for making comments related to monetary policy, with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi advising him to steer clear of such topics in the future.

Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama said Tuesday that she and Takaichi cautioned Trade Minister Ryosei Akazawa at a gathering the previous day to refrain from commenting further on monetary policy. The rebuke came after Akazawa said during a Sunday TV appearance that correcting the weak yen through monetary policy was among the options for curbing rising import prices.
