Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni suspended a more than two-decade old defense pact with Israel in light of the ongoing war with Iran, which has killed thousands of people and led to a surge in oil and gas prices.

Meloni made the decision not to renew the agreement due to “the current situation,” she said in Verona on Tuesday, without being more specific.
