Beninese Finance Minister Romuald Wadagni secured a landslide victory in the West African nation’s presidential election, defeating his sole challenger in a race dominated by the ruling coalition.

Wadagni, a former Deloitte executive and key architect of outgoing President Patrice Talon’s economic reforms, garnered 94% of ballots in the April 12 vote, the nation’s electoral commission said on its Facebook page on Monday. His only rival in the contest, Paul Hounkpè, obtained 6%, while voter turnout was 59%, it said.
