German football club Union Berlin named Marie-Louise Eta as head coach of its men’s team for the remainder of the current season, making her the first woman to lead a men’s squad in one of Europe’s biggest leagues.

Eta, 34, is taking over from Steffen Baumgart, who was sacked after the team lost 3:1 to bottom-placed Heidenheim in the Bundesliga on Saturday, Union Berlin said.
