Members of Quebec’s ruling party chose Christine Fréchette as the province’s next premier, months before an election that a separatist faction is favored to win.

Fréchette is succeeding François Legault as the leader of the nationalist Coalition Avenir Quebec, which has been in power since 2018 in Canada’s second-largest province.
