World’s Oldest Ruler in Cameroon Is Working on a Succession Plan
Paul Biya, who has led Cameroon for more than four decades and is the world’s oldest serving president, appears to be setting the stage to anoint a successor.
The National Assembly approved a bill at the weekend that will amend the constitution and enable Biya to name a vice president — a post that was scrapped in 1972. The 93-year-old originally proposed the change and is now expected to sign it into law.
