A group of small businesses and 24 mostly Democrat-led states urged US trade judges to toss out President Donald Trump’s latest global tariffs, arguing they were issued under a law that became outdated when the US ditched the gold standard decades ago.

At a US Court of International Trade hearing Friday in Manhattan, lawyers for the group urged a panel of judges to immediately set aside Trump’s Feb. 24 order placing a 10% tax on imports. The case involves Trump’s use of Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, which had never previously been invoked. Trump has said he plans to increase the levy to 15%.
