Tax Dodgers Leave Kenya’s Revenue Agency With $7.6 Billion Gap

Less than half of Kenya’s registered tax payers are settling their obligations, resulting in a collection gap of at least 982 billion shillings ($7.6 billion), according to the nation’s revenue agency.

While tax collection has been rising, the Kenya Revenue Authority routinely misses targets, putting pressure on plans to lower the East African economy’s fiscal deficit. Revenue lagging budget targets has seen Kenya revise its fiscal deficit projection for the year ending June to 6.1% of gross domestic product from an earlier 4.7%.
