Rhee to Leave BOK With More Guidance Tools and Transparency
Rhee Chang Yong kept interest rates unchanged at his last rate decision as head of South Korea’s central bank, leaving his successor with an open hand on how to proceed with policy and a wider range of tools to provide guidance.
Rhee, who left the International Monetary Fund to take over the BOK in April 2022, reshaped the central bank into a more outward-facing institution, ushering in a new level of transparency and global engagement. That shift helped steady markets in times of stress, but also exposed the central bank to heightened scrutiny and criticism at home.
