Prime Minister Mark Carney is on the verge of a majority government after securing another defection from the rival Conservatives — the fifth opposition lawmaker to change sides to the Liberals since the 2025 election.

Marilyn Gladu, who represents a district on the US border in southwestern Ontario, said she is joining Carney’s party “to build our country’s strength and success with a more constructive, collaborative approach.”
