With the clock ticking on US strikes against Iranian power plants, nuclear officials are raising the alarm over a region-wide radiological event if Israeli or US forces target the Persian Gulf nation’s Bushehr nuclear plant.

Iran’s only operating nuclear power plant on the Persian Gulf — facing neighboring Arab states — could become a target if Tehran does not comply with US President Donald Trump’s ultimatum to cease fire. White House officials including United Nations Ambassador Mike Waltz have declined to exclude the Bushehr plant from the possibility of an attack.
