Singapore Says US Removed ‘Inaccurate’ Trade Figure Amid Probes
Singapore said the US has withdrawn an “inaccurate statement” on bilateral trade balances that had underpinned Washington’s decision to launch probes into more than a dozen economies last month.
Singapore’s Minister of State for Trade and Industry Gan Siow Huang told lawmakers on Tuesday that the city-state ran a trade deficit with the US in 2024, contrary to earlier figures out of Washington that showed a surplus. The trade numbers initially presented by the US suggested Singapore was contributing to global manufacturing overcapacity.
