Leftist Mello Gets Planning Job, Ending Brazil Central Bank Talk
Brazil’s new Planning Minister Bruno Moretti will name leftist economist Guilherme Mello as his deputy, removing him from contention for a seat on the central bank’s board and advancing a shakeup of the federal government’s economic team ahead of elections, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Mello, currently the Finance Ministry’s economic policy secretary, is also expected to be nominated as chairman of Petrobras’s board, two people familiar said, asking not to be identified discussing private matters. The move was first reported by Folha de S. Paulo and confirmed by Bloomberg News.
