Madagascar Says It Foiled Plot to Assassinate the President
Madagascar’s top prosecutor said a plot to assassinate the country’s president, an army colonel who took power in a coup in October, has been foiled.
Thirteen people, of whom 11 are now in custody, will be charged with planning to kill President Michael Randrianirina and other crimes, said public prosecutor Narindra Navalona Rakotoniaina in an address televised late Thursday. Patrick Rakotomamonjy, an army colonel, was one of the main organizers and is yet to be arrested, the prosecutor said.
