US President Donald Trump’s remarks on the Middle East earlier this week had a significant impact on financial markets, according to Japan’s finance minister, who voiced concern about rising volatility in currency and crude oil futures markets in a renewed warning to speculators ahead of a US data release.

“The impact of Trump’s remarks on global markets — across all asset classes — has been quite significant,” Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama told reporters Friday. “Speculative activity has been increasing in both crude oil futures and currency markets, and volatility has risen sharply as a result,” she said.
