Romanian Leaders Seek to Revive Euro Goal to Weather Austerity
Romania’s central bank governor joined calls for the Black Sea nation to revive a goal of adopting the euro as the country seeks to get through a painful period of austerity and faces growing tensions within the ruling coalition.
Governor Mugur Isarescu made an appeal to officials across the political spectrum on Thursday to renew the push to join the 21-nation currency area. Days earlier, President Nicusor Dan backed euro adoption as a goal toward faster integration into the European economy and a boost to competitiveness.
