India Plans to Bring Back Open Market Buybacks After Selloff

Photographer: Dhiraj Singh/BloombergIndia’s securities regulator is proposing to allow companies undertake share buybacks via the open market, addressing investor demand to provide support to local stocks that are hovering near one-year lows, hurt by the war in the Middle East.
Companies will be allowed to buy their shares directly on the stock exchanges through a dedicated window, the Securities and Exchange Board of India said in a discussion paper released on Thursday. The regulator has sought public comments by April 23.
