Australia Curbs Gambling Ads After Years of Demands for Full Ban
Australia’s government introduced long-awaited curbs on gambling advertising, preventing companies such as Bet365 Group Ltd. and Sportsbet Ltd. promoting themselves at sports venues but falling short of the ban recommended by a parliamentary inquiry.
The measures announced Thursday by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese come almost three years after a parliamentary report into online wagering and its impacts proposed a full ban on betting ads. Since then, lawmakers and gambling-reform advocates have repeatedly called for the government to implement the recommendations.
