ByteDance Ltd.’s TikTok has dropped plans to invest in a new Irish data center in a blow to the country’s reputation as a data center hub as it grapples with concerns over grid capacity.

Instead of expanding capacity in Ireland, the social media platform is focusing on other projects to store European user data in the region, a company spokesperson said on Wednesday, confirming an earlier report from Ireland’s Business Post. ByteDance had previously signed an agreement for two buildings in Clondalkin in the west of Dublin.
