Gas grid operator VNG AG has urged the German government to take action to make sure storage is refilled with price spreads uneconomical amid high prices driven by the Middle East war.

German storage tanks have ended the winter about 22% full, the lowest in seven years, according to data from Gas Infrastructure Europe. The refilling season formally starts from April 1 and the European Union’s energy chief has told member states to start filling gas storage early in order to avoid competition for supplies.
