Paraguay’s President Santiago Pena tapped an economic adviser to temporarily run the finance ministry after Carlos Fernandez resigned from the top post Tuesday amid a fallout with lawmakers over a pension reform bill.

Juan Jose Galeano will serve as interim finance minister until Pena chooses a permanent successor to Fernandez from a short list of four or five candidates after the Easter holiday, cabinet chief Javier Gimenez said. The government’s economic program with a focus on the private sector, low inflation and growth won’t change, he added.
