While temperatures will stay relatively mild through April, several parts of the country are likely to see an increase in heat wave days in May and June, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, director general of the India Meteorological Department, said in New Delhi on Tuesday. Roughly half of the country is expected to see normal to below-average maximum temperatures, while the remainder will experience above-normal conditions, he said.
