Australia to Boost Pay for Younger Workers as Living Costs Rise
Australia has decided to boost pay for over half a million young workers, as the government tries to help people cope with the rising cost of living.
Workers aged 18-20 years old in the retail, fast food and pharmaceutical sectors should receive the same pay as people older than that, according to a statement from the Fair Work Commission on Tuesday, with the changes to be phased in gradually from December this year over the next four years. The decision is likely to impact major retailers across the country such as McDonald’s Corp, Woolworths Group Ltd, and Coles Group Ltd., who all employ large numbers of younger workers.
